In the Koksilah and Chemainus Rivers in South Vancouver Island, biologists, volunteers, and local knowledge keepers work together to better understand the impacts of climate change and extreme flow rates on declining salmon populations.
SeaChange Marine Conservation Society is working with volunteer boaters on Hornby Island to convert traditional boat moorings that fragment key habitat to seagrass-friendly ones, in efforts to conserve salmon populations, which forage and find refuge in eelgrass meadows. (Coastal Photography Studio.)
The Peninsula Streams Society coordinates aquatic restoration and conservation projects across Greater Victoria. Volunteers remove invasive plants, clean up shorelines, and facilitate stream restoration projects.
